Sinusitis (sinus infection)

Healthy sinuses are air-filled pockets found behind your forehead and cheekbones, which allow mucus to drain out naturally. If they become blocked due to an inflammation, which is often caused by a simple cold, an infection may start called sinusitis.

Sinusitis should clear up within a couple of weeks if the right steps are taken, but treatment is highly recommended if the problem becomes chronic as it suggests that there is an ongoing health issue that needs to be addressed.

What are the symptoms of Sinusitis?

  • A blocked nose.

  • A dull-sounding voice.

  • Headaches.

  • Feeling unwell.

  • Facial pain or swelling around your nose, eyes, and forehead.

  • A reduced sense of smell.

How do you treat sinusitis?

  • Take plenty of rest.

  • Drink lots of water.

  • Clean your nose out with salty water.

  • Take common painkillers, like paracetamol.

This condition, if chronic, can seriously impact your quality of life. The issue can be examined through a nasal endoscopy at the clinic with our consultant taking great care to rule out other causes of facial pain, such as benign tumours and even cancers that can be found in the nose and sinuses.

If chronic sinusitis is identified, effective treatment like medicines or surgery can be administered. Sinus surgery is fairly common for this condition, something which our consultant is highly experienced in. Book an appointment for your diagnosis.
