Nasal polyps

Nasal polyps are noncancerous growths inside the nose that are painless and soft. Most of the time they are not serious and easily treatable with medicines advised by your GP. If left untreated, however, these tear drop-shaped lumps may grow and restrict normal breathing and the ability to smell. Infections in the nose may also become more prevalent.

What are the symptoms of nasal polyps?

  • Loss of smell or taste.

  • Breathing problems.

  • An increase in infections within the nose.

  • A continuous need to swallow.

  • Snoring.

  • Having a stuffy nose.

  • Frequent nosebleeds.

  • Feeling like you have a constant cold.

Sinusitis may be present if the polyps are blocking the sinuses inside the nose.

It is unknown what the real cause of nasal polyps is, but those who have asthma or an allergy are more at risk of developing this condition. It is recommended that in order to avoid polyps, you should maintain good hygiene practices, manage your asthma and allergies well, and avoid any nasal sprays that could cause irritation.

If the problem persists even after weeks of using recommended treatment from your GP or pharmacist, you may need to consider surgical removal of the growths. Our experienced consultant offers private treatment for nasal polyps removal.

It should be noted that sometimes polyps can grow back post-surgery.
