Blocked nose and nasal obstruction
The problem of having a blocked nose can range from a mild to a more significant issue. A nasal obstruction, being one of the more serious symptoms of a blocked nose, may be down to having swelling within the nose or a problem with the shape and structure of the nose.
What are the other possible causes of nasal congestion?
Infections.
Allergies, such as hay fever.
Swollen adenoids.
Injury.
Tumours.
Nasal spray overuse.
A foreign body inside the nose.
Certain foods.
Medications.
Hormonal changes.
Thyroid disorders.
Smoking.
Chronic sinusitis.
Temporary symptoms can be treated easily enough with decongestant nasal sprays or prescription medicines. If the problem continues, our consultant can carry out a private assessment to narrow down the reasons for your blocked nose. An endoscopy examination will take place to help with the diagnosis, which may be slightly uncomfortable, but a painless experience.
Depending on the diagnosis, steroid and other nasal sprays may be offered. If more serious, surgery is an option to alter the shape of the nose, remove a foreign body or to remove infected adenoids, all of which our consultant is well-versed in. Book an appointment to begin your diagnosis.
